Charlie Swerdlow is a painter, illustrator, graphic designer, author, and musician from Portland, Maine. He specializes in sites & scenes from throughout world history. His work has been used in textbooks, popular histories, games, and sites, and is on display in private collections and public spaces.

As a fine artist, he uses mixed media to combine realist elements from history, travel, and imagination. In his Travel Symphony series, he explored the nexus of memory and experience, by combining many places, events, and historic imaginings into each elaborate composition. His work with sculptural canvases explores how distortion, texture, and irregular boundaries alter approaches and effects in painting.

Swerdlow is a founding member of the nautical folk music group Shank Painters. He writes and arranges music and lyrics, and performs as a singer and guitarist. He has published works of poetry and children’s literature. He has a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in illustration, with a minor in Art History.
